In harmony after fires for fundraiser
BRIGHTON television star Alan Fletcher is urging music lovers to rock into the past to help Victoria’s bushfire victims rebuild their future.
The Neighbours actor, who plays Dr Karl Kennedy, will appear alongside former and existing cast members from the Channel 10 soapie as part of the Ultimate Tribute relief concert to be held at the Crown entertainment complex on March 31.
Fletcher said the event promised classy entertainment while helping the bushfire cause.
“It’s a double banger and I know people are going to have as good a time as I am,” he said.
Seven of Australia’s best tribute bands will perform, honouring Liza Minnelli, Roy Orbison, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Robbie Williams, The Eagles and ABBA.
There will also be surprise guests.
Chelsea SES worker Phil Wall, who was called to Whittlesea after the fires, has organised the fundraiser.
“Having been up there, I came back and I thought I wanted to do something else,” Mr Wall said.
The support from performers donating their time was overwhelming, he said.
Fletcher, who grew up on a farm in Western Australia, said while not touched by bushfires personally, the fires were common in the state.
“Yes, I can relate to it but you wouldn’t be human if you couldn’t relate to what is happening,” he said.
Fletcher recently toured devastated Kinglake West. “You look at it gobsmacked,” he said.
The Ultimate Tribute will be held at The Palms, Crown, on March 31 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost $75 and go on sale from midday March 5 through ticketek.com.au
