Hi guys,
I thought it would be fun to see what drew everyone here to Alan Fletcher's work. We all know he's an amazing actor, musician and all-around great bloke, so let's tell our stories!
For me, it all comes down to the song "Hold That Feeling." When I was a kid I did a lot of acting, I was always on stage. Then the teenage years hit and I got all the insecurities that come with it. I left acting, and didn't get back into it until college. Then I got kinda typecasted as the big funny guy, got frustrated and left again.
But, one day scanning the tv late night, I came across the (all too brief) American screenings of Neighbours. Well here was this amazing actor, so I looked him up. I've been watching Neighbours ever since, got into Waiting Room and suddenly that old passion came back up.
I really admire Alan's talent, and I think it really helped to reawaken the dream I've held back for so long.
I'm only now finding the confidence to try to save up to study theatre in Australia, and see where it takes me.
I owe quite a bit of that to Fletch.
Hugs to all x

Interesting discussion point Jonathan I had been vaguely aware of the fact that Fletch played Karl in Neighbours for years as I would watch the show every now and again if I was bored in school holidays and things but it wasn't until I saw him on Soapstar Superstar last year that he really caught my attantion. I thought it was nice to see someone on the show who wasn't in one of the British soaps and as I kind of knew who he was I thought I'd have a look to see if he was any good! In short I've been hooked ever since. Celebrities get so much bad press and always seem to be in the news for some scandal or another so to see someone so genuine and down-to-earth as Fletch was so good to see. I loved what I heard vocally too because as I think it was Martine who said, 'you're so true and you get me in the gut every time' so I wanted to find out more. Found a brilliant archive of Neighbours' episodes and caught up on everything from the last few years in about a month and saw what an amazing actor he was, and when I came onto this site and heard 'Little One' I was instantly hooked on the band too. I'd had a rough term at uni in the few months before SS but then finding out about Fletch and getting the first album, songs like 'I Wasn't There' summed up perfectly how I'd been feeling. Just reading interviews that Fletch had done and finding hearing his songs and through him finding out about people like Tommy and Chris just made me want to live life really. Sounds kind of soppy I guess but I've been through some **** over the years and I guess seeing Fletch clearly enjoying everything he does made me realise more than ever that I want to make the most of life and enjoy it too. I had wanted to play the guitar for a couple of years but hearing Fletch and Tommy's music gave me that added inspiration to learn seriously. How has Fletch's work influenced me? Made me more positive in a lot of things I guess and made me want to just be me not who people expect me to be.
