thanks for posting that... check out the pic at the bottom of the page on the first one!! LOL! Jackie: I think we were lucky because we knew each other quite well before we began on Neighbours. I mean, we were coming in supposedly married for 20 years which is very difficult to do with an actor that you have never met before but fortunately we were able to be very familiar. Some would say overly familiar with each other. (Laughter) LOL!!! HAd to put that quote in just for kazza!

What? not me. Karl and Susan are real I tell you, real. Alan: But fight for the big ones. Jackie: But fight for the big ones, yes. Excuse me. ;D I love how they either finished each others line off, or know what the other is going to say. I am just imagining them asleep at the traffic lights. ;D Thanks for the article.

Alan Fletcher interview - All about Soap
Although Neighbours legend Karl Kennedy is one of the most upstanding men in Erinsborough, his alter ego, Alan Fletcher, has got big plans for the decent doctor. In a shocking soap twist Alan would love to develop the ramsay street resident's dark side.
'My absolute dream storyline would be for Karl to be unmasked as an 'impostor' laughs Alan. 'After 11 years on the show it would turn out he was never a doctor at all! His medical degree would be a fake and all this time he's been operating on people and doing all sorts of things without being qualified. That would be the ultimate plot for me.'
But for now, Alan's pretty happy with his character's current lot. 'The Izzy and Susan storylines that I'm involved with at the moment is my favourite to date. Karl's torn between two very beautiful women - which probably makes me just about the luckiest bloke in Australia!'
It's not just Alan who is loving his latest storyline - Neighbours fans can't get enough of it either. ' I get a lot of letters from people enjoying Izzy and Karl as a couple' reveals Alan. 'And at Christmas, British fans turned up to the pantomime I was in wearing t-shirts with 'It's not your baby' printed on them. Either way it's safe to say they are gripped by the twists and turns in Karl's love life'. Alan is staying tight lipped about whether his character will stick with Izzy or go back to his ex-wife, though he did admit:'There is talk that him and Susan will get back together - eventually.'
What else does the future have in store for Karl? 'I don't know exactly' teases Alan. 'There are big changes happening in the show - the producers have hinted that Karl may be involved in some big storylines around May. I'm also dropping a whole stack of activities so I can focus more on the show, so we shall see - I just love being in Neighbours.
In fact Alan is so devoted to the show that Karl is the second character that he's played. 'I was in Neighbours back in the 80's when Kylie and Jason were still there. 'They had a storyline problem - one of the mechanics was leaving and although they had a new guy coming in, there was 3 weeks when there was no one around to run the garage, except for Kylie's character Charlene. 'As she was only an apprentice that wouldn't have been realistic, so I came in to play Greg Cooper. I was only there for about a month but you could say that I was brought in to watch Kylie's back.
'It was a wonderful time to be on the show - her song 'The Locomotion' had just been released and there was a real excitement in the air. She was divine to work with too - I really hope that our paths will cross again one day.'

Into Soap Magazine
We chat to Neighbours veteran Alan Fletcher, AKA Dr Karl Kennedy, about winning the lottery and why he'd like to see Karl get back together with Susan.
How did you get the part of Karl? I worked for Grundy in a show called Embassy for a few years, and casting director Jan Russ knew my work well. So, when the part of Karl arose, I was one of the few people asked to audition, and I got the role!
You've had many acting roles on TV in the past, which has been your favourites? Probably on TV my favourite role as been as Frank Vittorio in Sword of Honour, a mini series where I played a Vietnam veteran who lost his legs and ended up committing suicide. There was a lot of character growth - it was a fabulous role.
How would you describe Karl? Do you think he has changed over the time? He's changed immensely. When Karl first arrived on Ramsay Street he was a very strict disciplinarian and very conservative. But as his children have grown up, and his flaws have come to the surface so strongly, he's become less judgemental.
Do you like playing him? I love playing Karl because he's such a flawed human being, and it's so nice to play a character and explore his flaws, rather than his benefits, all the time.
Do you share any character traits? We both like music! I like to think we don't share too many character traits, but when you play a character for a very long time you begin to find your own life sometimes bleeds into the work and I hate to say it, but sometimes vice versa as well! You do try and maintain a separateness if you can, though.
You've been involved in some fantastic storylines over the years on Neighbours; what's been your favourites so far? There have been many storylines I've adored, but it's the silly ones I like, like Karl deciding he's going to pinch garden gnomes, or lecturing others on their bin etiquette! The Sarah storyline really changed Karl, and the storyline I'm doing now, the Karl-Susan-Izzy love triangle, is amazing to play.
How did you feel when you found out Karl and Susan would be splitting up? To many viewers it was like the end of an era- was it the same for you? Initially I was shocked by it and I wondered if the audience would accept it, but the way it's unfolded, and what we know is going to happen in the future, makes it very exciting. The way it moves on is going to be very fascinating for viewers!
Is there anything you'd like to change about Karl? He could certainly be less judgemental and less arrogant about how he approaches other people, and maybe a bit more realistic about life.
You've seen a lot of actors come and go over the years on the set of Neighbours, who has been your closest friend? My closest friend on Neighbours has always been Jackie Woodbourne who plays Susan. We've worked together for so many years that we're very close. I'm close to all the Kennedy actors, and Natalie Bassingthwaite and I have a terrific friendship. Also, I'm surrounded by old friends like Marcella Russo and Kevin Harrington - I share good relationship with all the cast.
What would you like to see happen to Karl in the future? I'd think it would be interesting to really explore Karl as a single man, coming to terms with the fact that his ideas about growing aren't really coming to fruition. Or I'd like to see him have a string of disastrous relationships!
Who would you like to see him get together with - Susan Or Izzy? I think ultimately I'd like to see him back with Susan, after a long journey with Izzy. I'd like to see his relationship with Susan, if they got back together, be very different. I think it would be have to be for Susan to accept him back.
If you won the lottery, What would you buy? If I won the lottery I'd divide the money up: one section for my family and for my wife's family; one section for charity; and the other section would be for myself and things I love such as travel, music, and exploring my interests like photography.

Article from Inside Soap.Dr Karl Kennedy first stepped onto Ramsay Street 11 years ago, and Alan Fletcher has been at the heart of the show ever since. However, the 48-year-old actor swaps soaps for singing this month, as he and his band tour the UK... HOW DID YOUR BAND, WAITING ROOM, COME TOGETHER, AND WHERE DID YOU MEET YOUR FELLOW BAND MATES?Nancy - via email Waiting Room were born on Valentine's Day 2004, when my wife, Jennifer, and I went to a romantic dinner and saw Tommy Rando and Chris Hawkins playing. I got up and sang a few songs with them, and we decided to start working together. A couple of months later, we were performing at Neghbours nights in Melbourne, and 15 months after that we were touring to sell-out crowds throughout the UK. It's been quite a roller-coaster ride! I'VE ALWAYS WONDERED IF KARL'S APARTMENT IS THE SAME ONE THAT LIBBY AND DREW KIRK USED TO LIVE IN, BUT SLIGHTLY ALTERED TO LOOK DIFFERENT?Stephanie, London Well spotted, Stephanie. One window was changed and the exterior shot they use is from a different block of flats, but it's the same set. Sets are very expensive to create, so recycling is popular. DID YOU HAVE A GOOD TIME PERFORMING IN THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW WITH THE REST OF THE CAST? AND WOULD YOU EVER TRY TO STAGE A SIMILAR SHOW OVER HERE IN THE UK?Pamela, via e-mail Rocky Horror was an extraordinary experience. The amazing generosity displayed by everyone on the production will last with me forever. We raised AU$ 200,000 (£84,000) for charity that night. I would dearly love to stage a similar show in the UK, which I suspect would be just as successful. The only problem would be finding the time! I WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE YOU, JACKIE WOODBURNE (SUSAN) AND NATALIE BASSINGTHWAIGHTE (IZZY) ON THE FANTASTIC EPSIODES WHERE IZZY'S BABY LIE FINALLY UNRAVELLED. DID YOU ENJOY FILMING THE SCENES?Anita, Devon It was more a relief than anything else. - it took so long for Karl to find out the truth! They were amazing scenes. Actors love to get stuck into heavy material like that. NOW THAT KARL'S CHILDREN HAVE ALL GROWN UP, WHICH OF THE YOUNGER CAST MEMBERS DO YOU ENJOY WORKING WITH MOST?Jenny, Manchester I love filming with all the younger actors. There's an intersting storyline unfolding at the moment involving Karl and Janae Timmins. Eliza Taylor-Cotter, who plays Janae, is a superb young actress. I think some of my best scenes this year have been with her, in developing the realtionship between Karl and Janae. Without saying too much, it sets up beautifully for storylines in the future... YOU HAVE BEEN ON NEIGHBOURS FOR MORE THAN A DECADE. WHY DO YOU THINK KARL IS SO POPULAR WITH VIEWERS?Kellice, Cardiff I've found that a lot of the character's popularity in the UK is student based. For some reason, young people are very fond of Dr Karl. He's got quite a following, particularly in medical schools, and I'm often asked to do things for them. I'm even shooting a DVD for one at the moment! I READ SOMEWHERE THAT YOU WROTE A SONG WITH JACKIE, WHO PLAYS SUSAN. WHAT'S IT ABOUT, AND HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF DOING A DUET?The song is Accidental Tresspass, and it's about mistaking friendship for love. The singer talks about falling in love with someone who isn't free to love them in return. Maybe we'll do a duet one day, but I don't think Jackie really sees herself as a singer. I THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT OF JESSE SPENCER (BILLY KENNEDY) TO TAKE PART IN THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL, EVEN THOUGH HE'S A BIG STAR IN AMERICA. DO YOU THINK THERE'S ANY CHANCE OF THE KENNEDY FAMILY EVER REUNITING IN ERINSBOROUGH?Deeta, London Never give up hope. To be honest, I think Benji McNair (Mal) and Kym Valentine (Libby) could be tempted back, but Jesse is firmly esconced in the US right now. LIVE IN CONCERT You can catch Alan and his band, The Waiting Room, perorming on their tour of the UK over the next two weeks. Log on to www.alanfletcher.net for more information. Clare posted this on NF...hope she doesn't mind me copying. Thanks to Clare.
